Global Witness

For two decades, Global Witness has been campaigning for full transparency in natural resourcing.

Forest

Many of the world's worst environmental and human rights abuses are driven by the exploitation of natural resources and corruption in the global political and economic system.

Global Witness campaigns to end this, carrying out hard-hitting investigations to expose these abuses and drive change.

It is working towards a vision of a world where corruption is challenged and accountability prevails, where all can thrive within the planet's boundaries, and governments act in the public interest.

For two decades Global Witness has been campaigning for full transparency in the mining, logging, oil and gas sectors, so that citizens who own those resources can benefit fairly from them, now and in the future.

In Papua New Guinea, for example, they have been working with local people to uphold their rights and protect and preserve one of the world's largest and most biodiverse rainforests. This beautiful and important forest has seen widespread illegal logging and land grabbing which has not only destroyed the habitat of the animals living there, but also had a devastating impact on the communities who call it home.

Global Witness champions the role of local people as stewards and protectors of their land, whilst also campaigning for laws and policies to prevent the import of illegal timber originating from this rainforest by major economies, such as China.

You can help Global Witness protect the rainforest in Papua New Guinea, the wildlife living there, and the communities it supports. For more information, visit their website www.globalwitness.org
